No Excuses

First of all: merry Christmas! :D
I’ve been severely neglecting this blog. I guess it got lost with all the festive excitement and all that coursework :P Well, since I have a nice two week break, I figured it would be a good time to sit down and write up about my recent adventure: none other than seeing my absolute favourite band ever live.
It might have happened over a month ago, but the memory is still fresh in my mind. I had been counting down for weeks on end, getting increasingly excited as the 26th of November neared. The weekend before that Monday, I had done all of my homework on Saturday, and spent Sunday playing Kaiser Chiefs songs full blast. I couldn’t get a wink of sleep, but when I got out of bed on Monday morning I didn’t feel tired at all. This was the day I got to see Kaiser Chiefs live. School came and went, then I went back with my friend to her house so we could get ready to go. Those two hours were the longest of my life. I couldn’t contain my enthusiasm. Before I knew it however, we’d jumped into a car and we were off to the National Indoor Arena, tickets in hand. We got there about forty-five minutes after the doors had opened. As we got out of the car I started jumping around. I ran up the steps like a kid at Christmas; emitting high pitched squeals of “oh my God! I’m going to see the Kaiser Chiefs! Eeee!”. We showed our tickets, got our wristbands on and went down to the standing area. I couldn’t believe it. There was hardly anyone there. We turned to each other and went “we’re going to be right at the front!” After what seemed a lifetime of standing around shaking with anticipation, the first support act, The Little Ones came on. Then before I knew it they’d come off and we were waiting for We Are Scientists. Eventually they show and recieve a louder cheer than The Little Ones did. About halfway through one of them asks “so are you all excited for Kaiser Chiefs?” and I of course, scream as loud as I can while the rest of the crowd make a low murmuring sound. Once again we are all left waiting for the next act: Kaiser Chiefs. I stand there on the barrier fidgeting about and humming along to the music playing in the background, and occasionally exclaiming “I’m so excited!”, as we watch the crew put the famous “Kaiser Chiefs” curtain up over the stage. Suddenly, the music stops and we are plunged into darkness. Everyone started screaming and cheering. There they were, behind that curtain, my favourite band ever. I could hardly believe it. Their intro was brilliant: a slowed down rendition of the beginning of I Predict a Riot with the lights synchronised to each note. On the final note the lights sparkled, the curtain fell from whatever was holding it up and there they were. The rest of the lights came on and they played “Everything is Average Nowadays”. I spent the whole of the song in a trance, screaming the words and jumping up and down but fixated on the fact that they were really there, in the flesh. Even now I can’t believe it. Ricky came to our side of the stage various times and I went a little too mental for my own good. During I Predict a Riot, he climbed the light scaffolding right in front of me, leaned down over the crowd and after some manic waving on my part, he smiled at me: a moment I shall cherish forever :) After that they did Take My Temperature, and Ricky ran to the back of the crowd. On his way back he ran past us, and me being the insane fangirl I am, I launched myself at him over the barrier and managed to touch his shoulder. It was all over too quickly, and there’s a lot of it that I don’t remember, but I’m glad it happened. I’m glad I have the experience, and I’m glad I achieved what I thought I never would: touching the lead singer of my most favourite band ever in the whole wide world. I was sad it was over for a while after, but the best part is that I’m going to see them again in Leeds in May 2008, at their homecoming gig. And after that experience, I’m already excited. Only 150 days to go! :P

Hey! Your site is freakin’ amazing! I found it ages ago through someones recommendations and boy does it rule. I was reading through and your more or less the….same as me. It’s odd. Your reactions with coffee, living in England, what subjects you do at school - all just like me. It was kinda weird reading about yourself, but about someon else, if you get that? Just thought I’d drop you a line to say that your site is amazing and you’ve given it the most oringal name ever. I really like it. Hope you had a good Christmas. Peace out!

It sounds like you had a blast at that concert! That’s awesome! :D I’ve been dying to go to a good show myself…need to find something around where I live!

Lol, and I’m so guilty of heavily neglecting my blog as well, hopefully I’ll be getting back into it now, hehe.

Hope you had a fab holiday, and have a great weekend, Tish!

    Hi Tish,

Good to here you enjoyed Chiefs in Birmingham. I too love them and i went to the Sheffield gig a week after your Birmingham gig. Funnily enough two things that happened to you also happened to me, i got near the front and Ricky smiled at me (at least I think he did), pretty special for my first ever gig. Sadly I can’t go to the leeds gig, saving money at the moment, but hopefully if i have enough i’ll be going to leeds festival this year (in hope kcs will make another appearance). Hope you had a great christmas. Kaisers rule our world :)

Hey… your site is pretty cool, so I thought I’d leave a comment (:

I went to see the Chiefs on their winter tour, Earls Court on the friday. Sounds like we had a similar experience to you - front row, frantic waving at band members, grabbing Ricky! We were right next to him when he jumped onto the barrier for EIAN, and drumming on his leg with my glowstick was a pretty special moment…!

Have an awesome time at Elland Road - gutted I cant go but I live a little to far south!
